Quicksand on Netflix True Story: Show's Real

quicksand netflix review

Summary With a ripped-from-the-headlines premise and a compelling central mystery, Swedish series Quicksand will undoubtedly attract a binge-watching crowd. The many victims in Quicksand While no one is 100 percent innocent, the story of this Netflix series does have a lot more victims than those who were killed in the school shooting. But what we do know is that Sebastian and his father are too good to be true. It doesn't seem necessary, as the story tied up all of its loose ends, but it would be interesting to see what new risks would be taken. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie.

So good I had to write a review, which I rarely do anymore. This felt unlike other swedish series. So I was waiting for a plot twist to happen that she did do it or maybe someone completely unexpected was involved but nope. . Does the show get into the shooting or is it just a jumping-off point? Maja is portrayed with a fascinating realism by Hanna Ardéhn who is simultaneously annoying as hell and a victim of circumstance.

In Sweden, there has never been a 'proper' school shooting. This is a tough but important show. I found it quite predictable, even that mysterious witness was obvious to be Samir. She brought the audience along and we felt every emotion along with her. Quicksand knows when to be brutal, and when to be subtle. But I was floored that the relationship between Maja and Samir was not expanded during the court proceedings. The latter is used to slowly build up a clearer picture of what actually happened in the classroom and run parallel to the story that lead up to it.

Though she feels sure she would never hurt her friends. I thought the acting was great especially Maja and the lawyer. Themes of teenage rage, prejudice, excess, drug use, and abuse put the viewer right in Maja's shoes as the mysterious circumstances of the fictional school shooting are slowly revealed. Parting Shot: In a flashback, Maja and Sebastian walk into a classroom, the door shuts, and we hear gunshots. Those doing the show were better at building suspense than the writer, who has staggered onto an interesting idea, but did not really know what to do with it after that.

I don't feel that the english dub quite does the show justice. I would recommend this show to anyone who has a stomach for vicious violence, doing drugs, even rape. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. I'm sure there are many people who will find this topic very difficult to watch. The filming and acting was incredible. The creator of Quicksand is Camilla Ahlgren who worked as a script editor on the three original movies in the Millenium trilogy.

And the next day, Claes leaves the ship, leaving the two of them unexpectedly alone with the staff, Claes points out. She is charged with some of the murders as well with several other charges. But then she flashes back to that day at school; she still has no idea if Sebastian or anyone else survived. There have been a lot of bad shows on Netflix in the near past: This was none of them! I can't say much more without dropping some spoilers. From there Maja is whisked away to jail where the series really starts. Maja isn't seen again until she's in a Stockholm jail after being handcuffed at the hospital, suspected of a crime she may or may not have committed. Not only because of the superb acting and ongoing suspense delivering a high binge factor.

But is Quicksand based on a true story? Rarely I see something that feels this real that is swedish. Got some genuin flashbacks from the Djursholms drama, the houses with the typical interiors and I recognised the weird parents with no time but lots of money and the spoiled entitled kids. Quicksand starts immediately after the school shooting. In other words, Maja is a complex and complete character reminiscent of many other teenagers you might know. And why could no one see the pressure she was under? Although extremely sad, I was pulled in by the great acting, the interesting characters, and the suspense. If you have read the book, there wasn't as many surprises as it might have been if you didn't. What really works for Quicksand is the complex characters that help us understand how things could go so wrong.
